We manage a great deal of energy data: consumption data of households and businesses, associated data such as every customer’s address, technical details, relocation data and energy contracts.
Fluvius ensures that each energy supplier receives the right information to draw up their annual final invoices. This behind-the-scenes task is crucial to the operation of the energy market.
Accelerated roll-out of smart meters
In an amendment to the Energy Resolution passed on 17 July 2020, the Flemish government set a target of replacing all traditional meters in Flanders with digital energy meters by 1 July 2029, with 80% to be replaced by 2024. To achieve this, a ‘natural’ roll-out – with old meters being replaced when buildings are renovated etc. – is not enough. We are therefore shifting up a gear and actively replacing meters in each municipality in turn. In late 2020, we appointed three contractor groups to help us achieve this ‘acceleration’.

Online platform to track your smart meter data
Smart meters offer customers a number of specific basic functions:
- meter readings
- remote services, such as the provision of usage data
- additional information about the energy consumption in a building or apartment
Smart electricity meters also have two user ports that enable customers to connect their own smart devices to their digital meter. This enables them to monitor their energy usage in detail and/or operate smart electrical devices such as washing machines, dishwashers or electric cars. Customers can thus control their own usage and those who generate their own electricity can control the amount fed in to the grid. For full information, go to maakjemeterslim.be.
In early 2020, we launched mijn.fluvius.be. This online app enables every household to check their usage details free of charge via their smart meter and so gain a better view of their energy consumption. Solar panel owners can also see their daily feed-in figures. In the course of 2020, we also made it possible to view your figures by quarter-hour (electricity) or hour (gas).
